To ensure that you are getting the best quality , authentic New Zealand Mānuka honey, we verify the Methylglyoxal (MGO) content of all our honey and display the amount of MGO per mg/kg on all our labels.

We also test to make sure that there are no additives in our product and test for 150 pesticides and C4 sugars (to check for adulteration) in your honey. Zealandia Honey® exclusively works with IANZ & ISO 17025 certified independent laboratories to verify the content of our honey before we ship the order to your destination.

Science definition

A combination of five attributes, 4 chemicals and 1 DNA marker. These are the requirements to authenticate monofloral and multifloral Mānuka honey and can be identified by using two laboratory tests.

TEST FOR

MONOFLORAL MĀNUKA HONEY

The test for monofloral Mānuka honey requires all of the five attributes. If the honey fails to meet 1 or more of the attributes, it is not monofloral Mānuka honey.

  TEST #1: CHEMICAL TEST  

The following chemicals all need to be present:

At a level greater or equal to 400 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 5 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 1 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 1 mg/kg

  TEST #2: DNA TEST  

DNA from Mānuka pollen approx. 3fg/uL

TEST FOR

MULTIFLORAL MĀNUKA HONEY

The test for multifloral Mānuka honey requires all of the five attributes. If the honey fails to meet 1 or more of the attributes, it is not Mānuka honey.

  TEST #1: CHEMICAL TEST

At a level greater or equal to 20 mg/kg but less than 400 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 1 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 1 mg/kg

At a level greater or equal to 1 mg/kg
